QMmeltpool 3D – Real-time monitoring ensures greater transparency during processing

Concept Laser also presented a crucial development for real-time quality assurance monitoring.

"Inline Process Monitoring' is one of the strategic technology fields at Concept Laser, which we are now adding to with the QMmeltpool 3D," says Dr. Florian Bechmann: "If we can dynamically micro-analyze the build process, the level of quality increases. Important key industries with their sophisticated applications have enabled us to develop this important innovative step," continues Dr. Bechmann.

In a comparable manner to computer tomography (CT), the new QMmeltpool 3D makes it possible to generate 3D data sets of a component and its build structure. According to Concept Laser, this allows local effects that arise during building of the component to be clearly identified and analyzed.

The practical added value of this innovation is not just that it is an original way of providing real time quality assurance, but also that production builds can be optimized through iterative variation of the parameters.  Support structures can be adapted, and above all, the design of the component can be structured in a more efficient and production-friendly manner. It also opens up new possibilities in materials research.

The beta phase will start in the middle of 2015 and an official release of the tool is planned for the end of 2015.
